Amazon is expanding its brands in the sustainability space: The retail giant just launched Amazon Aware, a fresh distinct eco-friendly essentials spanning shopping categories like apparel and skin care. According to Amazon, everything in the collection was created with sustainable materials like recycled polyester and organic cotton, and each item boasts a carbon neutral certification. Amazon Aware products also form area of the retailer’s Climate Pledge Friendly program. The modern Amazon Aware items are area of the Local climate Pledge Friendly initiative the business launched in 2020, making it possible for consumers to look for more ecological products. Today Amazon has more than 75,000 products featured as more sustainable through the Climate Pledge Friendly initiative.
In addition to an assortment of EWG VERIFIED face cleaners, moisturizers and body creams, other Amazon Aware-branded items available for sale include men and women’s apparel and household essentials, and bed and bath products that carry other alternative party certification marks.
Amazon Aware Beauty Products, Amazon Aware is broken down into four main categories you can navigate – you can also filter by types of eco-friendly measures, including products made from recycled and organic and natural materials.
Apparel features clothing made from recycled materials for both men and women, including T-shirts, sleepwear, outerwear and denim. Third-party sustainability certifications across this category are the Global Recycled Standard, Global Organic Textile Standard and HIGG Index Materials.
Beauty and skin care products are EWG Verified and include a face cleanser, body wash, body lotion and face moisturizer for both dry and oily epidermis. Each product is vegan and formulated without fragrance, according to Amazon. The collection uses aluminum bottles, glass jars and allows for refills to eliminate single-use plastics, Amazon says.
Bedding and bath items – which range from bed linens and duvet sets to organic plush towels and bath mats – tout certifications from GOTS and Made in Green by OEKO-TEX, which verifies that products are manufactured under socially responsible working conditions, in line with the organization.
Household essentials include cleaning cloths, toilet paper, napkins, paper towels and facial tissue and are all created from 100-percent recycled material without having dyes or fragrances, according to Amazon. The products are each certified by the FSC, which says it verifies manufacturers support responsible forestry.
Amazon says the Amazon Aware collection is part of the retailer’s commitment going to net-zero carbon by 2040, which it’s been working toward since co-founding The Climate Pledge in 2019 alongside advisory organization Global Optimism – the pledge currently has 217 signatories, including big name companies like Best Buy, Verizon and Procter & Gamble, that committed to measuring, reducing and offsetting carbon emissions to attain that same goal. By October, there are more than 200,000 products and over 10,000 brands that boast the Environment Pledge Friendly label on the Amazon listing.
